Small Business Marketing Ideas

Tiny businesses are going under by the dozen daily in this tough economy, but there are lots of free or lower cost promoting ideas for small business. Small outlets may continue to fail as shops like Walmart and Target continue to fight it out for market domination by offering stupidly decent prices on everything from clothing to electronics to nutrition. When small businesses fall victim to this unbeatable competition, folks lose their livelihoods and communities lose valuable resources.

So, how is a small business to stay afloat in these hard times?

If you are a bricks and mortar business, you've a battle on your hands, particularly if you offer anything the big chains offer. You have got to become unique, an expert in what you do, and offer the best buyer service possible then market that fact.

Those are 3 of the things these gigantic box stores do not offer : uniqueness, expertise and customer service. Personally I always try and shop at small local businesses, because they're the spine of a community and they're often more well informed and beneficial than large stores, where you are fortunate if you can get any help at all!

Its remarkable how many small businesses do not feel the need to have an internet site. They most likely don't know that Google really loves small business and always will pull a small business to the top of a search page, just by someone putting in the name of a city and whatever they are on the lookout for. This is a great advantage to a business owner. There are always local directories, for example thru the local Chamber of Commerce, where you can list your site, regularly for a small fee or free.

Many small business owners are also of the opinion that beginning and maintaining a site will cost them a lot of cash and is difficult. Offering cost-effective internet site construction and upkeep for small local businesses has become a cottage industry in itself.

Little local businesses must always have a domain offering a short description of what they offer, what they are skilled in doing, a map to where they are located, opening hours and contact numbers and a mail address, any successful use of income-producing Google Adwords and affiliate advertising on those sites, can become a really pleasant added bonus. By offering an opt-in box, a small business web site owner can make a list, and then offer discounts and specials to those customers by initiating a marketing campaign.

Web businesses have a much tougher task on their hands. They have much larger competition and must employ SEO and a lot of other selling tactics, especially to make a list of subscribers. A site's popularity reflects numerous things : the age of the site, the consistency with which it is updated, the value of its content and the relevancy of its content and the amount of backlinks it has . Just like a small high st business, an internet site should offer useful information, great customer service and brand itself as being unique. It's all about attraction selling.
