What does FMCG mean?

The term FMCG basically means retail goods that get 'used up' quickly, within a number of days or weeks. The term FMCG is short for 'fast moving consumer goods.' FMCG's differ to goods such as kitchen appliances and other durable major appliances that are not usually replaced within one year.

FMCG usually have an extremely short shelf life, this can be due to consumer requirements or generally that the product itself degenerates quickly and therefore needs replacing fast.

Fast moving consumer goods always have an extremely short shelf life and therefore certain types of consumer goods such as foods (meat, dairy, fruit, veg) and toiletries and alcohol as well as cleaning products have a fast turnaround.

Customers will view FMCG as being things they purchase frequently, things they don't really need to think too hard about buying and things that are low in price everyday items.

Marketers often think of these goods as being high in volume, low in value and having an incredibly high turnover in stock.
