Depression can lead to things like weight gain, divorce, alcoholism and drug addiction, and very sadly, even suicide. It's a very serious disorder that needs to be treated seriously. If you even think you may be depressed, you should see a doctor. When it comes to dealing with depression, you may wish to consider acupuncture. This is important because while being a non-standard way of dealing with stress and depression, it does work for many people. The relaxing nature of this procedure can help you to clear your mind and find peace.

Even if you are regularly taking medication, you should also be sure to regularly have therapy. Talking to a trained professional will be able to help you understand your own thoughts and actions much better than just thinking can do. Friends are not a replacement for a counselor.
Listen to motivational audio that can get you focused on the better part of your thinking. Motivational speakers have the ability to lift your energy, confidence, and consciousness. Take the time in the morning to listen to someone else saying the things you may not know how to say or may not be able to say yet. Be consistent and use them to your advantage daily.

Be realistic about your life goals and expectations. Some say that depression comes from setting and trying for goals that are unachievable. When you fail to reach your goal, your inner self becomes angry and frustrated then becomes frozen. A clue to this type of behavior is goal-setting that always starts out great then peters out to nothing, leaving you feeling bad. Readjust your goals, and learn to work on realistic chunks that let you make small daily progress achievements so you can feel good about yourself.
When depression hits, take the time to count your blessings. No matter if you are sad, or possibly angry, be thankful for what you do have. There are people in this world who would gladly exchange their place for yours and not take the gifts that you have been given but taken for granted. With a gracious attitude and positive thoughts, depression cannot survive.
