Lucid dreaming is a technique that can help you to not only recall your dreams, but also to control them to some extent and understand that when you are in it, that you are sleeping. It is a term that was first created by a Dutch psychiatrist more than 100 years ago, around the turn of the 20th century. Since then, it is a theme that has been explored by many psychiatrists and psychologists and been the subject of several publications. It is a technique that is used for several reasons and there are many people out there who have shared their lucid dreaming stories.

When you are dreaming lucidly, you are not conscious, but you are able to become aware that you are in a dream state. This realization is something that is generally not present from the beginning of the dream, but which occurs some way into the experience. In many cases it is something occurring out of the ordinary - such as flying - that alerts you to your non-conscious state.

There are a range of reasons that people become interested in learning this technique and how they can control their sub-conscious sleeping state to some degree. Some people have successfully used this method in order to overcome nightmares. There are other people who want to pursue this technique merely to be able to enjoy and recall their nocturnal adventures.

Yet other people use this method to rehearse and prepare for situations that are going to occur in real life. This may include practicing for making a speech or presentation or to have a difficult conversation. Some athletes and other performers also put this method to use to prepare for upcoming events. Doing this can build confidence for when the actual situation happens in real life.

Furthermore, people can use this method in order to pose questions or problems prior to sleeping and have their sub-conscience work on them as they sleep. By being able to recall what happened or was thought about during the slumber, people can often find answers to different questions or problems that they have. Some people even use this technique as a way to achieve artistic or creative inspiration.

Generally you have to learn how to do this technique and then practice it before you can enjoy its benefits fully. There are a couple of different methods out there for people to learn about and try out. There are several sources where you can learn these techniques and beginning to put them into practice.

The experiences that others have had with this technique are as many and varied as the people who have used it. Some people have enjoyed wonderfully adventurous and exciting experiences, some sexy, some inspiring and yet others who have had some upsetting dreams, which may help to indicate that they have things that are causing them anxiety in their conscious lives.

No matter what your motivation or reason for being interested in learning more about this kind of dreaming and lucid dreaming stories, it is always a good idea to develop a good understanding of something. Some people find this method very useful for their daily lives to reduce anxiety or increase performance in the sporting arena or the office and yet others simply use it as a fun way of adventuring during their slumber.
