The Impact Of CASS Certification On Businesses

by Patrice McCoy

The postal Service of the united States, USPS, has make it possible for both small size businesses and large scale businesses to enjoy the benefits associated with direct marketing. Initially small size businesses were not able to afford the cost of CASS certification that allows them to use direct mail in their marketing campaigns. Big businesses on the other hand, enjoyed the benefits of direct mail since they were able to afford the high cost of acquiring the right to use direct marketing.

The cost of acquiring the right to use the direct mail has hindered the productivity of small business as they are unable to reach customers using mail as a means of directing marketing. These businesses have limited resources and cannot afford the cost of mail services, as opposed to big companies who enjoys a huge capital base and invest heavily towards direct mail. This scenario has created biases in a business transaction for a long time.

The united states of realized this problem and come up with a plan that will make sure that all types of business are able to enjoy the benefits associated with this type of marketing. Through the postal services, the United States decided to simplify the addressing of direct mail to ensure that the service is affordable to small scale businesses. They issued an order through a press release on 21st of December 2010 indicating that there has been simplification of mail addressing.

Nowadays all business will be in a position to use the service without having to purchase the software and the required technology that permits the usage of mail as a means of direct marketing. The companies that are still using the system that involves purchasing of the software are able to reduce their cost of operations. This is because these companies are in a position to get a discount when they purchase the system as it is impossible for post office to give them the appropriate data to their mail.

The plan to make this type of mailing accessible to all types of business has led to a deficit of approximately two hundred and thirty eight billion dollars to the United States of America Postal Corporation. To bridge this deficit gap, the Postal service of the United States has planned to put up kiosks that offer self services at some busy places.

With the intervention of the States, small businesses were now in able to enjoy the advantages of mail just as the case of large scale businesses. They are now able to use direct mail in their marketing and realize increased revenues and profits. This is because it is nowadays not necessary for companies to buy the software that offers the right to use mail service.

Large companies however still continue to enjoy huge discounts due to their ability to afford the software that permits the right of direct mail usage. This is because the postal service is still unable to provide an appropriate data bundle to their mail. This still gives these companies market advantage as compared to the small businesses.

The intervention of the postal service of the United States have made it possible for small companies to enjoy the benefits that they would have not enjoyed before due to their inability to acquire CASS certification. Nowadays all companies have an equal chance of using direct mail as a means of marketing. The economy will also experience a boost as a result of the plans initiated by USPS.
