For anyone looking for a job, the writing of an impressive cover letter is at the top of their list of things to do. A cover letter is really important because it will determine whether a prospective employer will call you back or not. It is for this reason that you want to make sure you write something that will be a winner.

Remember this is like a sales pitch and the product you are selling is yourself, so the letter needs to reflect that. Many employers never read beyond this letter if it is less than impressive. Your letter should engage their attention long enough for them to want to have a look at your resume, and hopefully call you for that all important interview.

You have to make sure that your cover letter has a heading. That way whoever is reading it will be able to tell why you are writing without wasting too much time. Make sure you include the job reference number and the job tile.

The letter itself should be neatly typed on plain white paper. Format it so it looks professional and worth reading. You want it to be impressive and an untidy cover letter with tons of typing errors will not cut it.

The way you introduce your letter is very important so give a lot of thought to your first sentence. Construct your sentence so it captures the reader's attention. The rest should also be well written if that attention is to be held.

Do not be afraid to tout all your achievements and your strong points. You are trying to convince them to give you the job and this is the best way to convince them. Show them why you will be a valuable addition to their company and you are one-step closer to that job. Because your CV has detailed information on all these, make sure your letter does not mimic it unnecessarily. Just make it short and interesting. Finally yet importantly, you need to make sure that your submission follows the guidelines that were provided. Therefore, make sure that you read and understand the guidelines so you will follow them when you are doing your submission. Check whether you are to send the cover letter as an attachment, email body or as a hardcopy.
