As the Olympic fever dies down, the struggle continues for mentors and parent to encourage children to get into sports. Sometimes it is not enough for them to see the value of sports medals. They need to be motivated and to recognize the importance and the benefits of sports.

Playing sports has a lot of positive effects especially on children. It helps develop their social skills and at the same time would hone their physical faculties. It is a good way for them to stretch those muscles and exercise instead of hanging in front of the computer or TV.

For mentors and parents, encouraging children to engage in sports has become a bit of a challenge nowadays. Nowadays, there are so many distractions and alternative activities. Kids now prefer to watch tv or play compoter games instead of going out to play. Getting a sports medal is not something they would aspire for.

This is the reason why much effort is being exerted in order to encourage kids to join sports. But these institutions say that the role of the parents in this endeavor is really big. So here are some tips on how parents can encourage their children to engage in sports:

1. Play with them- Playing baseball in your yard or shooting some hoops in your garage can start the child's interest in sports. You can't motivate them to do something that you yourself can't do. So never ask a child to go out and play while you sit in front of the tv and eat junk food.

2. Let them play with neighbors- Sometimes it takes community effort to motivate your kids to get into sports. You can ask your neighbors to push their kids to play. Organizing little leagues in the neighborhood is a great idea.

3. Make them join the school team- If your think your child has great potential in sports, you can let him try out in the school team so his skills would be improved.

These are just a few simple things that parents can do in order to encourage children to aspire for medals for sports.
