Materials on skids or pallets are stored using a pallet racking raleigh nc storage system. There are a number of these systems used to store palletized materials in multiple levels and horizontal levels. As an integral part of the storage system a forklift struck is used to place the pallets on racks. This system has been in use even during the Second World War and currently is an ubiquitous and essential element in a lot of modern manufacturing facilities, retail centers, warehouses as well as in other distribution and storage facilities.

All types of this storage system come with varying storage density and cost. The least dense rack is the least expensive and as the storage density increases so does the cost. The least dense is the selective rack which has the lowest cost per pallet position. On the other hand gravity flow pallet rack is much denser and cost much more.

The most commonly used system today is the selective racking. It has two kinds of configurations, the clip-in configuration or roll formed and the structural bolt together configuration. The roll formed rack is manufactured in a teardrop style, named so because holes on the upright column are in the shape of a teardrop. There are horizontal load beams on which pallets rest and held in place by mounting clips. Clips on teardrop configuration can be moved quickly allowing shelves to be adjusted easily to varying heights in order to accommodate different load sizes.

The structural rack system is not so different from the roll form with the only difference being the bolt attachment between the uprights and the horizontal beams making them strong enough to bear more weight capacity. This is a form of adjustable shelving which means constructing, reconfiguring, dismantling and reusing them is made pretty possible.

Structural racking can be built into the buildings structure and the upright columns used to support roof of the facility. The uprights replace the vertical support I beams of the storage facility making it a rack supported building. On the other hand, the selective system provides easy access to all products which is essential for inventories that are rapidly depleted and restocked.

Another common rack system is the drive in and drive through configuration which allows the forklift drive through to the lane with stacked rows also know as the bay. The simple difference between drive thru and drive in is whether the bays have entries at only one end or both ends. Drive thru has entry points on both ends of the bay whereas the drive in system has one entry and exit point.

Additionally there is also the push back system with design based on the organizing principle of depth rather than width. In this system the bays are at least 6 pallets deep and stored on carts with wheels to allow them to roll on the rails provided. These rails slightly tilt towards the side of loading/unloading and the pallets are released on these carts they roll forward and bump into the other pallets before them. Its a LIFO system meaning last in last out.

There is the pallet flow system which is an example of high density storage system where capacity is increased through depth utilization. There is also an inclined rail in this system that facilitates pallet movement down a sloppy plane. Dynamic flow and gravity flow are terms that are also used to refer to this pallet racking raleigh nc system where movement of pallets is controlled through complex braking and motion systems.
