If you are starting a brand new band, then you know money is definitely an issue. You need to set up your equipment, clean up, break down, drive, market, promote, and all of those other pesky tasks that keep your band alive. You will also have to deal with album artwork, editing, and of course, the manufacturing of compact discs. There are many catches to contend with when trying to publish an album, and there are many mistakes to be made.

Late Orders-Make plans, lots of plans. From the time you order your CD it will take up to two weeks to arrive. Once that happens, you need to have your art printed, and approve the final result. If you allow time for adjustments and various changes, you should be fine.

Excessive Quantity-On the first release, bands will usually order far too many discs. There was a time when ordering 1000 discs was a necessity, but you can now make discs at home whenever you choose. It is important that you do not spend all of your money on the creation of discs. Make a few discs, then go back for more when you have a greater demand.

Do-It-Yourself Printing-If you attempt to print your own labels, you need to know that home printing jobs do not look nearly as good as professional jobs. Album releases simply are not the time for a DIY project. In the long run, once you add in your time, you will probably come to the conclusion that printing your own printing efforts simply will not be profitable.

Incorrect Album Art-One of the biggest potential issues in CD production is the cover art. Oftentimes people fail to read the specifications set forth by the manufacturer, and they simply deploy their own templates. This can lead to a rejection, and lead to you taking even more time. The images need to fit the artwork template and use the proper format. When you have a better reputation, you might take a more freelance approach to the process, but not when you are first starting out!

No Digital Strategy-Another common mistake in an album release is failing to make the album available in digital format such as a stream service. Fans who don't buy your music at the release show may want to buy it later. If possible, a distributor like iTunes should have the album when you release the CDs. Advertise that you have a digital downloads available. Offer your music from your own website with services such as Bandcamp, PayPal and Topspin.

No Follow-Up Strategy-Releasing an album is a great landmark, but it is not the end. You need to make sure you keep the buzz going. You need to make a video schedule, and you will need to build a good promotion schedule. Learn who is who in the music blogging scene and keep your name out there no matter what.

There are many potential issues with album releases, but so long as you employ careful planning, these issues do not have to ruin your life, or your band. Make sure you follow the advice presented to you here, and of course make sure you follow the advice of the manufacturer. If you find yourself unclear about anything you can call the manufacturer and ask for a bit of help. With a few simple techniques you will be ready for an album release!
