If you're a business owner, chances are, you have come across this web-based marketing strategy called email marketing. If you have but chose not to act on it, then you're in a brink of risking your business into extinction.

Email marketing has been around for quite some time now. The advancement in technology plus the birth of the internet paved way to this marketing strategy. And because email has become the most common means of communication among web users, it didn't take long for this marketing practice to become well-known.

Many web entrepreneurs settle for email marketing because aside from being convenient, it is also cost-efficient and effective. However, not all who get into email marketing succeeds. Part of which is the doing it in a wrong way due to one or two of the following:

1. Absence of message customization

If you want to waste your time and money in sending email campaigns, then you have to send irrelevant messages to your contacts. Do this and you're sure to have your emails ignored or worse deleted immediately by your clients and prospects.

2. Not getting your client to click through

If you want more of your products or services to be sold, then you have to make sure that all links in your campaigns are working well. Broken links will definitely shun your customers away.

3. Lack of campaign tracking

Without tracking your campaigns, there's no way that you can improve your marketing strategy. Good thing, there is now this tracking feature found in almost all email marketing software. This feature will show the click on rates and the number of contacts who have opened your emails.

4. Poor grammar and spelling

A poorly written content is as good as having no campaigns at all. So please, before you hit the 'send' button, make sure you have proofread your message.

5. Spam

When you send unsolicited messages to your subscribers, you are spamming. And this is a sure way of tainting your business' reputation.
