CRASH! In an instant your world can change from the simple decisions of : "Where am I going to eat for lunch today?" to, "WHAT DO I DO UNIVERSE??, I AM ON THE BRINK OF A MELTDOWN!!". Ok well It might not be that drastic but if you have been in a car accident, THINGS GET REAL, FAST. The simple stresses of life fall away and you now start to think to yourself, "Is my neck going to hurt forever", "What if the insurance doesn't pay for this", "what if I ruptured some random organ and the doctors overlook it and I'm dead in a week". This sounds crazy, but our thoughts get the best of us especially in high stress situations.

It super simple and can sometimes be overlooked. Keeping a tight rein your thoughts after a car accident can keep you in a state of peace. During an accident your thoughts can get so loud that it keeps you from being able to effectively handle the situation.

Use your imagination here.

You are sitting in your car, your ears are ringing, and there is crushed glass sprinkled over your lap and passenger seat. You were in an accident, and the flood of thoughts that start to fill your head begin to overwhelm you. "How bad am I hurt?" "My heart is beating so fast am I having a heart attack?" "My arm hurts, oh god it must be broken" "My insurance premiums are going to go through the roof.." "This wasn't my fault, but no one is going to help me!" the thoughts keep coming and continue to cause anxiety and hopelessness. HERE is the first thing to do

BREATHE. Focus on your breath. Slowly breathe in with a count of four, and then out with a count of six. Don't focus on all the worries, focus on your breathing, this will cause you to not think about the things you cannot control in the moment and focus on what is important... YOUR Life.

BE PRESENT. Thinking that you should have made a left turn instead of a right and you'd wouldn't be in this mess is a waste of a thought. There is nothing you can do in the moment to change what has already happened. So forgive yourself and allow yourself to focus on the present moment. All the "should of's" and "could of's" are now in another dimension and are inaccessible.

ACCEPT do not RESIST. To hate the fact that you are dealing with an accident is understandable. Resistance causes more suffering. There is a peace that comes with accepting where you are. You don't have to like it, but when you accept where you are, you are able to stop denying the reality you are currently living in and you are able to think clearly. You are then able to make the appropriate choices in order to change your circumstances. We cannot change the world, until we look within ourselves and change how we see the world, and through this we truly change the world.

BE THANKFUL. If it wasn't a serious accident, we sometimes forget that it could have been a lot worse. If you can walk, talk, breathe, and your car just has some dents in it... Sounds like you got fewer things to worry about then some people who don't make it out of an accident.

Life is a gift if we choose to see it that way. It's that simple.
