One way or another, almost everyone will experience at least one instance of phone call harassment in their entire life. These harassing calls may come in the form of simple prank calls or even very frightening threat messages. Well luckily for victims, there are ways to prevent these kinds of instances from happening.

One, two, or even three of these calls might still be okay as they are most likely just harmless jokes. If one were to bring it up to the telephone company, he would most likely be ignored because a few calls is probably not a big deal for them. Now if the calls are too frequent or if they become threatening, then that will be a different story.

Now of course the best thing to do would be to ignore these kinds of things. As much as possible, it is best not to bring in any help from the telephone company or police for such a small matter. So if one were to receive these kinds of calls, then he should just hang up because if he gets angry, he will just encourage more of these annoyances.

If the caller is very persistent that he disrupts daily routines, one may now report to the phone company. One may request them to trace down the number and identify who the caller is. After that, the company may block his line or turn the case over to the local police to give the caller a warning for public disturbance.

A peaceful way of settling this dilemma may actually be to change number. Since most callers like these would call any random stranger, they will most likely not remember any of their victims anymore. So if one changes his number, the chances that the same guy will call back will be very small.

Another way would be to get an answering machine. If a caller tries to annoy someone by making a prank call, then his efforts will go down the drain because the answering machine is there to block the victim. The prank caller will eventually be discouraged.

There are times though, that the offenders do not just randomly pick any household. Sometimes it could be part of a big operation wherein they would really want to bring harm to someone. They would usually really stalk their target and keep on sending them threatening messages. As said above, that would be the time to call the police. Alongside the phone company, the police will be able to trace patterns on where the calls are coming from.

So basically, if one is experiencing some phone call harassment, just follow these steps to avoid them and prevent future annoyances like these. Just remember not to give out any personal information and do not react badly. It is always best to try to ignore them so that they will not call back. If it starts getting dangerous, then take appropriate action by bringing in the police.
