Before deciding on a new job, you have to set your own goals. It's important to improve your individual work performance but at the same time, it's equally important to optimize the overall performance of your company. That is the only way to assess your overall performance.

We always need to set our performance goals within the purview of the business and management objectives. While trying to set goals from our employment's point of view, we need to examine what are the goals that the company or the management is vying for. When we say how to set goals while looking for employment, it's important to take care of the established performance goals set by the company for its employees.

As an employee of the firm, it is your obligation to understand and work for the company's overall targets and goals. While working with your employers, you need to set goals that can simply fulfill the goals of your employers while reflecting on your improved performance levels to help attain those goals.

While we plan to set our goals while searching for suitable jobs, many of us are tempted to make a common misconception. This misconception underlines the importance of appraisal to evaluate our performance on an individual basis but not on the basis of the entire work unit. The performance appraisal process is often considered for an annual cycle. This means that the supervisors and managers normally assess the performance of their subordinates annually. Different types of forms are used for recording the performance attributes of the employees. Though this is a smooth process, it is sometimes possible that the performance of an employee is not assessed properly. Thus while setting our individual goals, we should least value these appraisals.

While these performance appraisals are of significance, those are not the only aspect you should work at. Many times, managers fail to focus on the vital points of your performance and merely follow the pointers mentioned in the appraisal form. If you want to improve performance, and want to know about how to set goals while looking for employment, don't look back on your past performance. There might be some situations that might be beyond your control. Hence the only way to improve your achievements would be to look forward and plan your goals.

Try to set goals, like applying for 5 jobs every day. You can also try to contact at least one person in your area of interest. These new contacts can be utilized to hunt for employment. Reading at least 1 blog posting a day in your field can keep you up to date. All of these will help you improved your chances at the job hunt.
