Community Managers: is this the future?

by Abel Pardo Fernandez

One of the problems that internet marketing consultants have, is, occasionally, that we work where folks play. I was talking about this matter with some scholars in the Faculty of Economics in Leon, where I teach Marketing.

They had to present a job about community bosses, and I actually liked it.

Neuroscience and electronic books in Leon were other interesting studies, but community managers were a little special, because web promoting experts work along with them.

Community managers: Who are they?

There is not any a very clear definition of this work, even by themselves. A few people believe they're copy-paste persons for social media, other folks think they can manage multiple channels, and ultimately (they) think they have to create and consolidate relationships between the brand and the clients or customers.

Maybe, a community boss is a person that works where his boss wants, doing what his chief wants.

Why? He pays, he chooses. Economy is quite important in our city, in our country, all around the world, and jobs, too.

Digital Promoting and Community managers

When an advisor specialized in digital media designs a web media strategy, he's building a structure where not only the channels, but tasks are on the horizon.

At this point, there are some tasks for developing, like the ones we described in this article. Other of these tasks are well known and defined.

The great question is: Who is going to develop these functions? And here is where specialists, again, have the opportunity to make a suggestion and community bosses appear as a solution.

Why we should contract a community chief (or not)

It's a time/money question. There are firms with employees that have some mess around and can fantasically develop these functions. In this example, it's quite engaging to finish the labour day with these tasks (glaringly after a training course).

Often it's interesting to contract a half-time community boss, shared with other firms or freelancer. It can cost something around 400$ / month.

And by the way, it's not quite well paid nor your dream job, but now there's a recesion in our societies and work isn't everywhere.

Other choice is to contract a pro digital promoting director and he'll select the people for doing the job.
