Evaporative cooling is basically a strategy for cooling the air. This strategy takes advantage of the drop in temperature that occurs when water is exposed to moving air. This then slowly causes vaporisation by drying small water particles, and changing their chemical bonds, converting them to gas. An evaporative cooler is used to perform this task and is best used in climates where the air is hot but the humidity level is fairly low. In places like India for example, evaporative cooling systems have been used for many years in homes as a more affordable option, replacing the air conditioner.

Evaporative cooling is the most eco friendly way of cooling the air particularly when compared to the run of the mill air conditioners. The use of refrigerant, which is hazardous to the environment, is not applicable here; moreover, it also consumes about 80% lesser energy. During the summer the Evaporative cooling have the ability to serve as humidifiers and their only negative point is that they cannot run without an abundance of water and as the water has become quite a difficult thing to have so the Evaporative cooling can create problems.

If you are living in a humid culture then this type of cooling option is an outright failure as it will only enhance the humidity levels of the surroundings. The most common type of cooling system mainly used in the industrial and domestic areas are enclosed in a metal or a plastic box which has a centrifugal fan or simply called as blower fan.

An electric motor and a water pump is used to provide water to the cooling pads. They can be easily placed on the floors or affixed to the walls or the windows. The dampened air keeps on flowing which greatly helps in making the summer pleasant.

The evaporative cooling has a lot advantage and the first of them is that they are quite inexpensive to operate, more eco friendly and can be beneficial to the dry climates by releasing moisture into the atmosphere. On the cost side, it is half the price of an air conditioner. Finally it has only one draw back which is that it can make the humid summers more humid.
