When you start a new job you will want to impress your new co-workers and manager so that you fit in. This article looks at what you should bear in mind when starting a new job.

Often lots of new starters fail to last in their role for more than a year, a big reason for this is that a large proportion of new employees are not given a clear enough picture of what is expected of them and what their goals for the next six months are. Often they are also not told where to find all the information they need and therefor spend lots of time researching instead of asking their colleagues and bosses.

People often refer to 'red flags' which they may have missed when interviewing for the role. Often these red flags will include not fully understanding what is expected of you and your role. Sometimes new employees speak too much rather than listen which causes them to miss out on vital bits of information.

In most offices there is some office politics, for new employees office politics can make tricky situations. It takes time to fully understand the hierarchy of an office as well as understanding the different personalities. Hostility is something new employees consistently come up against. It is how this is dealt with that matters the most. New employees should aim to rise above conflict and ignore it.

Often the first twelve weeks of a role are deemed to be the most significant you should really aim to deliver on any commitment you make. The first twelve weeks are often make or break.

Often stating a new role is extremely nerve racking. The best thing to do is to remain calm and see it as an opportunity to meet new people and reach your personal goals rather than a scary awkward few weeks.
