People constantly send nonverbal messages. Without saying a word they can show that they are upset, attracted, confused, and even confident. Little signals like our posture, our eye contact, and our expressions are always sending messages about the way we feel and what we think.

Take up a little space. Don't go overboard but in moderation this shows you're confident and relaxed. Men can sit wider by spreading their knees further apart or keeping their arms wide behind their head or in front of them. This is a little trickier for women. You still want to look ladylike. Relax and do this with your arms and torso instead. The goal is to look comfortable rather than apologetic with your stance.

Make confident hand gestures and use your hands to talk. This demonstrates your point, draws people into what you're saying, and makes you look more confident. Used appropriately, this is a great way to look confident and stop yourself from doing some of the body language "no-nos" like fidgeting with your hands.

Keep your head up to seem open to interaction and confident. This is similar to keeping your eyes forward. It makes you appear insecure and closed off to drop your head while you walk or wait so keep your head up and your eyes forward.

Smile when you can. This doesn't mean all of the time. Don't smile when you're upset but as a general rule, smiling a little makes you seem worry free and confident in yourself. It's also friendly and you're likely to get a few smiles back.

Look like you're in control. Walking frantically makes you look like you are out of control of your own life. You have a lot going on, but look like you have a handle on things to make yourself appear more self confident.

Your posture is an immediate signal about how you feel about yourself so stand tall! This is an obvious sign of confidence and super important to communicating how you feel about yourself. No matter what you're doing, your back should be straight and your shoulders should be back.

Sit up Straight. You don't want to look stuffy, but keep a straight back and your shoulders back. Having good posture is important but don't go overboard. Make sure you're comfortable at the same time and don't look too stiff. If you sit or stand too rigidly, it makes you look nervous or uptight. Stand on both legs. Putting equal weight on both feet (rather than jutting out one hip) signals confidence and stability.
