One of the most effective ways to begin the process of trying to better yourself, either on a personal level or a career level, is to generate your goals based on the SMART concept: S=specific, M=measurable, A=attainable, R=realistic, T=time bound. By using this concept and the tips outlined in this article, you can be on your way to achieving your goals.

Assigning blame is, in the vast majority of cases, a waste of time. Part of a successful personal development regimen is learning this fact and giving up the blame game. Focusing on overcoming new problems is more productive and more mature, than trying to find out who is to blame.

Determine things currently in your life that keep you from your life goal. These things should be eliminated or limited to allow personal development for a better you, while avoiding those things that bring you down in life. When it comes to reaching your life goal, there is no room for distraction.

To stay on task, make a rule never to skip two days of work in a row. Everyone needs a break once in a while, but taking too much time off makes it harder to get started again. If you don't feel like working towards your goal on day two, do it anyways. Don't let yourself stray from the course.

Be prepared to take risks, think outside of the box or put yourself outside your comfort zone on the road to personal development. This can be as silly as dressing up in a Halloween costume when you are 40 or as life changing as visiting a different country. Taking risks allows us to be stronger and face challenges head on.

Writing in a daily journal can be a helpful way to keep yourself motivated as you work to reach your personal development goals. Even if you don't consider yourself to be a writer, simply jotting down your thoughts about your accomplishments, or even about anything going on in your life, can give you the momentum to stay with your efforts.

Even if your schedule is packed with things that you have to get done, be sure to fit in some time to spend with your true friends. Even if it is just time for a cup of coffee together, these friendships are going to make your life a bit more joyful and contribute to your well being.

Focus on yourself before you worry about what others may think. This doesn't mean you have to be selfish, but it does mean you have to focus on your needs first. Work on improving those areas of your personality that seem the most important to you before you worry about things that others say you need improve on.

Loneliness is something that many people battle on a daily basis. One easy tip to help conquer that feeling of loneliness is to learn to enjoy your own company. Learn how to be self sufficient which boosts self esteem which will then rid you of that constant fear of loneliness.

Try working in blocks of 10 minutes to get more work done. It's true that 10 minutes is not an eternity or a great deal of time to accomplish everything, but when used correctly, you can get so much done in that short period of time. After that time is up, take a break and start again.

Everyone needs to get a little better at selflessness. We are all great at knowing how to be selfish. Selfless is the opposite of selfish. Selfless is forgetting ourselves in order to make sacrifices to help others. Being selfless from time to time vs. selfish is a great way to improve our personal development.

Striving to improve your life or yourself is a goal that many people have in common. While some problems are easier to remedy than others, any situation can improve with the right type of self help. As the above tips have shown you, there are many different steps you can take to make your life more rewarding and fulfilling.
