Allen Cardoza from the "Answers for the Family" show on LA Talk Radio spoke to Reverend Ed Bacon, author of "8 Habits of Love." The guest described the best ways to move through anxiety and to live a life filled with love and joyful self-expression. He also spoke about finding one's real calling in life, the power of forgiveness, and the immense value of contribution to the welfare of others.

About Ed Bacon

Ed Bacon, the rector of All Saints Church in Pasadena, California, is a passionate advocate for peace and justice in the community, the United States, and the world. His Episcopal parish has a congregation of more than 4,000 people, and the church has earned a well-deserved reputation for multi-ethnic worship and for championing global harmony.

Acknowledged as a thought innovator, Reverend Bacon has earned a number of honors and tributes for his peacefulness and interfaith initiatives. He has been featured as a speaker on Oprah's Soul Series on XM's Oprah & Friends Radio, been interviewed on The Oprah Winfrey Show, and contributed to ideas on Oprah.com.

What Are the 8 Habits of Love?

During the discussion, the guest explained just how he had actually been encouraged to come up with the eight habits of love based upon his lifelong quest for spiritual truths and his study of powerful spiritual people by Oprah Winfrey. She inspired him to write about his deep understanding of religious truths. Reverend Bacon found that the antithesis of living in fear is to exercise stillness, forgiveness, play, candor, generosity, forgiveness, compassion, and community.

Reverend Bacon pointed out that we stay in a culture that advertises fear-based thinking, and also, in reality, interested parties find it financially rewarding to keep the current culture of timidity alive in our society.

While fear did play a part in survival, as a temporary aid in times of danger to decide whether to attack or flee, it had now come to be a pervasive mindset in our modern age. The visibility of fearful reasoning resulted in reactive living since it excited the Reptilian Brain, our most primitive brain function. Conversely, those that believed in love had the ability to access the greater intellectual capacity of the Mammalian Brain and the Neocortex. Consequently, they tended to live innovative, successful lives.

The way to access love is to practice the fundamental pairing of generosity and stillness. Generosity is a deep way to relate to others. By serving as an instrument of kindness, the essential nature of the Universe, one is able to offer others a blessing. Stillness, on the other hand, helps a person get replenished from within. It can be accessed through meditation, deep conscious breathing and other methods. Cardoza shared that he experiences the power of stillness through practicing 20 minutes of gratitude meditation each morning and that it sets the right tone for the rest of his day.
