An athlete may undergo physical and mental stress when facing a competition. This could get in their way when playing. They become too tense, worry a lot about the outcome of this competition, could not concentrate and break into a cold sweat. To help them cope with this stress, their coaches may hold a sports psychology system for them.

This is an area in psychology that concentrates on the competitive anxiety of the players. Its aim is to help the players optimize and control their performances. They can relax and improve focus during the game. They can play the sports better if they learn some helpful techniques.

The entire program is focused on the four C's that is crucial in every game. These are the mental qualities considered a must of every player during a game for a successful performance. The four C stands for concentration, confidence, control and commitment.

The concentration is considered important so the athlete can play the game without distraction. Even if the athlete is good, he could not perform well if his mind keeps on wandering about the outcome of the game. Pressure from the fans, coaches and peers may adversely affect his performance as well. The program aims to get rid of that problem by improving the player's concentration.

Confidence also plays a vital role. If one does not believe in himself, he could not perform well. Every player must contribute to the team's success. Thus, shaking and sweating does not help much, but make them ineffective. The program intends to get rid off all sorts of apprehension, self-doubt or fears.

One must also practice control. This covers both physical and emotional control. This aspect is highly important in every sport, much more on ball games. A player must observe proper control when shooting the ball or passing it into one of his teammates.

Finally, the players must show commitment to the team. The group must have the same goal in mind so they will work together to achieve it. The sports psychology can also help them adapt the mindset of a winner so they can commit to excellence in every game.
