With all of the addictions in the world, alcohol is the most common due to how easy it is to acquire the stuff. Addiction to this drug is not just for certain types of people. Everyone falls prey should they abuse the substance. Due to marketing and general societal attitude towards alcohol, people underestimate the true power of it. It can cause complete and utter mayhem in many people's lives at the blink of an eye. Drinkers feel this is a personal choice and they aren't harming anyone else, but they could not be more wrong. Milestones Ranch Malibu may be the answer to their unspoken needs.

The signs of alcoholism:

There are many warning signs when it comes to alcohol abuse. They begin to be apathetic in regards to their responsibilities and relationships. They decide to drink instead of doing what they said they would do. If they are in school, their schooling is deeply affected. If they have a career, there is damage done to that. They could end up losing everything they worked so hard for. They seem more reckless, because they may be drinking and driving. Or they may also think that they can do anything without facing real consequences. The things that they do are typically not what a normal, healthy adult would do. They face the possibility of criminal charges if they end up drinking and driving, especially if they end up hurting someone.

True alcoholics do not just stop drinking because their loved ones tell them to. They shirk their responsibilities and relationships. This ends up causing a deep issue between them and the rest of their world. Most people do not want to see their loved ones fall into a deep addiction and they do not just sit there idly as someone destroys themselves. Another sign is when they use alcohol to self medicate. They may have had a stressful day, so they go to get a few drinks at the bar. Or they come home to drink. When they drink heavily alone, that is also a warning sign. They will make up excuses to do that.

Warning signs and Withdrawal Symptoms

When someone drinks alcohol excessively every day, their body forms an attachment and need for the alcohol. Once the drinking stops, their bodies go through withdrawal. They are incredibly moody and feel very sick. They become depressed and shaky. Intense headaches come about often and are faced with the sweats. They spend a lot of time either exhausted or sleeping, though insomnia can be a big issue with alcoholics too. Due to being sick with nausea, they simply do not eat like they are supposed to.

After an alcoholic has been drinking excessively for an extended period of time, their withdrawal symptoms may be worse. Many alcoholics experience hallucinations and generalized confusion. They end up feeling like they may have the beginnings of the flu, as they have a fever on top of the nausea. They may have a shorter fuse than usual. Seizures are also possible. They are life threatening and treatment must be found to prevent any more damage.

Myths about Alcoholism

There are many myths due to the fact that people tend to undermine how truly dangerous this drug is. They believe they can quit drinking at any time, should they choose. This is just a grasp at the delusion that they are in control of their alcohol consumption. They are going to need outside help. They believe that their drinking does not have negative impacts on other people, which is not true. They affect their families, coworkers, and other important relationships because they become unreliable and unavailable for even the most basic of responsibilities.

What treatment is available?

Once a drinker gets to the point of dependence it is important to seek treatment. There are plenty of rehabilitation services out there. One of the best known places is called Milestones Ranch Malibu.
